Two Tips To Help You Select The Right Carpet

Adding carpet to your home is the perfect way to create an inviting atmosphere that you can't wait to come back to.  However, not all carpet is created equal, and if you're in the market for new carpet, it's important that you make a purchasing decision that you'll be happy with for a long time.  Use these tips to learn more about what to look for when you're thinking of adding new carpet to your home.

Aim For High Density

If you want to select a carpet that both looks great and that is able to stand up to heavy traffic, aim for a high density version.  Carpet density is based on how closely the carpet strands are in relation to each other.  Dense carpet is better able to retain its shape and not take on the matted appearance that so many carpet types eventually devolve into.

Dense carpet can stand up to frequent usage because it is tightly woven together.  A good way to test out the density of a particular carpeting option that you're looking at is to take a sample pad of the carpet and bend it backwards.  If you're able to see a good portion of the carpet backing through the threads, the carpet is not densely packed.

Keep in mind that you may have to sacrifice a bit of softness if you go with dense carpet, but you may find that the benefits of this type of carpet make it more than worth it.

Stain Resistance Is The Key

Another important component to consider when selecting carpet is the stain resistance level of the carpet you're looking at.  This is vital, because a carpet with a low resistance to stains will decrease its lifespan and could mar the appearance of your home.

Nylon and olefin are two great materials to use if you're looking for stain resistance in your carpeting.  You can maximize the stain resistance by choosing a color that is not too dark, yet not too light.  A medium hue of brown fits into this category, and is a great way for you to camouflage any stains that may happen to show up.

The right carpeting can make a world of difference in the look and feel of your home. Use these tips, and contact a professional flooring company, like Olden Paint & Fresh Look Flooring, for more information to help you choose the right carpet for you.
