Have you always been enamored with things like western movies and the history of the Old West? If so, you may have decided that you want to design a family room with a western theme. From selecting the furniture to choosing the flooring for your family room, here are some ideas that might help you to plan a room that you and your family will enjoy.
The Furniture - Think of selecting furniture that has a bit of a rustic look to it. For example, heavy wooden pieces would more than likely help you to establish the western theme you have chosen. The type of upholstery you choose will also add to the mood of your family room. For example, selecting brown leather for your sofa and chairs would be very appropriate. Another good choice of fabric would be denim. For a bit of added drama, think of choosing red denim.
Buy throw pillows that have things like cowboy boots, cactus and stage coaches as part of the design. Think of using unique things like old travel trunks for your coffee table. Will you be placing a large screen television set in the room? If so, consider buying a floor to ceiling shelf that can hold the television set along with collectibles like family photographs and replicas of old trains and stage coaches.
The Flooring - Have you considered having carpet as your flooring? If so, you more than likely have already considered that it will be a good noise buffer and that it will add warmth to your family room. Think of selecting long-lasting carpet that will withstand a lot of foot traffic. If you selected brown leather for your furniture, consider choosing light tan for your carpet color. If you went with blue denim, consider buying a darker shade of blue for the carpet. If you chose red denim for your furniture upholstery, light blue or light tan would both be very good colors for your carpet.
The great thing about selecting carpet is that it is affordable and easy to maintain. It comes in so many colors and in so many textures that you might have trouble selecting which ones you want in your family room. If you don't want carpet, consider having a wooden floor. Wood with a rustic look would be perfect in a family room that has a western theme to it. Consider getting wood that will complement the furniture you have chosen.
